Fluttering Hearts Prevail

A Poem

Fingers and shivers

through skin,

petrichor filling young lungs,

silver eyes gazing from afar.

The earth and sun meet

with forbidden smiles,

meadow grasses whispering,

your secret is safe.

Dark nights darker,

rock and time unforgiving,

teeth snapping in lonely ears,

and the sour tang of tears.

A fleeting moment of elation,

a heart-falling fear,

hope held in course hands,

a future sifting through a lost hourglass.

The guardian is a locust tree,

its leaves whispering,

I knew you would return,

a different face with the same love.

Watch stars expand and fall,

taste the nectar of spring,

as wings soar and claws unsheathe,

fluttering hearts prevail.
