Fleeting Moments

When Time Doesn't Wait

(bask in the moments for time is too precious to take for granted)

She could see the searing red heat of the sun upon her inner lids

as she laid, splayed out on her beach blanket, intent on drifting into the sweet abyss of sleep.

This was the one time she was thankful for her dark melanin, for her ebony pigment drank up the summer rays and awakened her childish glee.

No fears here!

No concerns of the job she ached to quit...

the husband whose loyalty was worn away like a pair of old socks...

or the kids whose insolence and disrespect were growing more intolerable with the advance of teenage years.

This was her moment of serenity!

Her moment to recline and feel Mother Nature engulf her with a kiss.

Her moment to not think, debate, or analyze ...just be.

*******

A moment she knew would never last

so she inhaled deeply,

pulled her wide brimmed sunhat down to her chin,

thanked God for her moment of solitude,

and fell asleep.
