Flames

A Poem

Mother always told me

to fear the flames

Because

Even the smallest spark

It had power

Destructive and unforgiving

As the candle flickered

I knew it was true

I knew it was real

The flames

We’re mighty

But the candle so little

Showed me something

Something else

Something

No one could have told

The little flame caused something much bigger

Much more powerful

A single match

Can start a forest fire

So don’t ever tell me

Something small and unimportant

Is nothing

You may feel like nothing

You may be down

You’re feelings more powerful

It’s like

You’re so trapped

Stuck in nowhere

But you are a match

So strike

And start your wild fire
