Five Years Back

A Letter to My Past Self

Oh my dear,

You are just a child.

The problems you have are still somewhat mild.

Your troubles will grow larger around this bend,

You will believe the pain will never end.

You will be beat down, broken, and scarred,

You will think pain was just written in your stars.

You don't know pain yet, I wish it wasn't true,

But life sucks, that's why I write this letter to you.

Girls will be cruel and boys will be mean,

You feel as though your pain will go unseen.

They'll call you names like sl*t, f*g, and wh*re,

You will receive stares when you walk through the door.

You'll jump at the chance for a date to the dance,

Don't fall for that guy, he just wants in your pants.

Don't crush on those girls so much older than you,

She's probably straight, I mean, she complimented your shoes.

I can't tell you life's perfect, won't tell you it's great,

But I can tell you it'll be worth the wait.

You're headed the right way, you're on the right path,

So don't worry if you don't understand all that math.

Just stay strong and move on, you'll be alright, dear,

As I close this letter, I'll see you next year.
