Finding My Power

A short poem about overcoming emotional abuse.

Writing poetry has helped me overcome some of my worst experiences and hopefully I can help others too. If you need to reach out to me, please do. I'm more than happy to listen.

The Storm

There is a storm brewing inside of me

There are lightning flashes in my eyes

Thunder in my words

You told me I should be afraid of it

Of the clouds rolling through my veins

You taught me to be ashamed of it

Of all the things that I might say

But I think it was you who was afraid of it

Of the display of light and sound

I think it was you who was ashamed of it

Of the truths I might have found

But there is power in this storm

There is lightning in my eyes

Thunder in my words

So count the seconds between the rolls of silence

And see how long you have to run
