I once did not have the spirit to care that you were lost,
I once did not have the light to find you in the darkness,
The shell was there with a reflection and I heard your cries but I could not help,
You lay dormant in your cocoon yearning to spread your wings and fly,
Every breath longed for the warmth of the sunshine just so your tears would dry up,
You had more strength than I could ever imagine and your beauty is now starting to shine through,
We are slowly starting to know each other and we are slowly starting to love each other.
You are kind and caring but you can not be pushed over,
There's a fierce temper but it only comes out for injustice,
I see your sparkle when others are consumed with negativity,
You still have cloudy days but that sun that you prayed for always shines through,
Our scars will always be there but they are our scars of war, our marks of survival and our tribute to everyday that we have stood tall and strong.
