Farewell to a Philanderer
A goodbye poem.

There are so many ways to cheat
that it’s impossible to be discreet.
Just be honest, and respect
the person you expect to understand,
when your indiscretion doesn’t go as planned.
I hope she’s worth it. I hope she’s what you need.
Though love failed us, I hope you two succeed.
I wanted your gladness to be with me,
but only sadness, from what I see – is inevitable,
if “we” continue to be.
A weed that thrives on tears I’ve cried,
will wither once we let it die.
So, let’s. With no regrets.
At least then, you can guiltlessly
pursue those other outlets.
Meanwhile, my heart may mend –
if I can find peace in the end.
Goodbye.
