A Poem

Once upon a time,

a princess lived in a tower—

a dark and scary tower,

like the ones in movies.

She seemed to be lost in translation,

as all the words of the adults around her

came out sounding like foreign languages.

But she wanted to make art.

She was convinced that words

were the pathway to destiny.

She could create the world she wanted

by putting it on paper

and imagining it into existence.

And then the thunder came,

and rumbled through her tower

like midnight intruders

stomping up the stairs to your bedroom.

The adults were gone,

she was alone again,

in a room that seemed smaller than before,

but big enough to be her whole world.

One window was enough to see

that the outside world was too scary

and that villains from fairy tales were real.

So she locked herself away in her tower,

and they never heard from her again.
