Falling from the Sky

A Poem by Me

I fall through the sky, wondering what comes next

Perusing the clouds as I rush by them, content

With the feeling that soon I will be no more

Hoping that everyone else feels the same

As I do.

Wondering what my family will have for dinner, and

If they will miss me.

Wondering what my peers will think when they hear

The story.

That I fell from the sky, not able to stop myself.

Is this fake?

They will ask, wondering how something could’ve

Happened like this.

As the wind howls in my ears, I remember the howls of the wolves-

How they pierced the night sky as I tried to sleep.

I see the puffy clouds and they remind me of the turtles

I used to catch in the creek with my brother.

The clear blue sky is tranquil, unaware

That someone is nearing death-

Getting closer, and closer, and closer.

I pass through the clouds and see the ground-

Green trees, rolling hills, and pastures for as far as I could see.

And I wonder who will find my body?

Will it be some poor farmer who notices the damage to his cornfield,

Or a tourist just driving by?

What will they do?

I hope they don’t scream at the sight of me.

I’ve got seconds til impact now-

My last few seconds on this beautiful earth, and I wonder-

Why me?

I wonder-

Where will I go?
