Falling

(Into Love)

I've never been at ease

With the way my heart

Falls in love

Stumbling and tumbling into it

As though love were a pile of Autumn leaves

They say that love takes time

They say that love is patient

Love is blind

But I see true

Love is messy

Timeless

Flawed

Love is beauty

Breathless

Dark

So I trip

I fall

With racing heart and sweating palms

Lacking grace and deeply flawed

My heart surrenders with alarming speed

A matter of hours

Or days

Or weeks at most

But I how do I stop what's raw

What's true

How do I stop when I see you?

When I see a soul

Gentle and kind

When I see the darkness

Most try to hide

The unashamedly broken

Dark in their light

I suddenly find

The truth of the matter

Is not about time

Strange though it sounds

And frightening to know

I have no control

In matters of love

I'm the master

And I don't understand

But I have I learned

Can be summed in one line

The fact is

That this heart...

Has never been mine.
