Fallen America, Rising like the Phoenix

An Ode to the Cycle of Life, Death, and Rebirth of the Political Spirit of Protests in the United States, in Regard to the Occupy Movement, and Beyond It

Fallen, fallen! The glorious dream! The land of liberty, fallen.

Fallen in love with liberty. Fallen, America, fallen.

Rising, rising! Like the Phoenix, rising,

Ash quivering with life again!

The prophets cried; the martyrs died,

the world conquering itself.

The poets, they rave, “Everybody’s enslaved,

by their own the wealth.”

The crumbling kingdoms crawl toward

the choir of fate that calls:

We must build our nation on brotherhood

and love, or else we will all fall!

Fallen, fallen! The glorious dream! The land of liberty, fallen.

Fallen in love with liberty. Fallen, America, fallen.

Rising, rising! Like the Phoenix, rising,

Ash quivering with life again!

The eagle takes flight! The people unite,

the whole world moving as one.

A new way to live, simply to give;

the scintillation of the Sun

issues no debts for its shining

blaze across the lovely skies!

The vision of freedom, it burns

brightly in the sad gleam of our eyes.

Fallen, fallen! The glorious dream! The land of liberty, fallen.

Fallen in love with liberty. Fallen, America, fallen.

Rising, rising! Like the Phoenix, rising,

Ash quivering with life again!
