Escape

Poem of Abuse

There's another one

Lying on the floor while he hovers

over her. The more she weeps the more

he beats her. The more he hurls the insults.

She never imagined a life like this. By day she

sends her child off to school. That's when her

degrading starts. She cleans the house with a

toothbrush. He strip searches her and slaps

her if she objects. After that she is pushed

to sell her body or strip. Whichever pleases

him that night. He forces her to hand over all

the money. You would think that she is

getting pimped which is true. But the culprit

is her own husband. He rapes her when he wants it.

When she says no He beats her until she can't speak.

Sad isn't it that's what I thought too. I listened to

her tell it. Gabirella couldn't look herself in the mirror.

Couldn't even say I'm beautiful. Couldn't tell anyone.

She lived in fear. Fear of herself. Fear of him. Fear

of standing alone. That's where she was right now.

Alone had no one she never knew what love was.

But she had a chance to run. Run away from him

run away from herself and try to reinvent what

she thought was her life. Couldn't even make

it to the door. Struck down with a mighty force.

Gabreilla blacked out and woke up still

ready to escape. She doesn't even know

where to start. Just go to work have a normal

day. Take your daughter out of school and

escape. Go to the police first. Then escape

to a place where only they can find you.

Stop living in fear and rebuild your life.

But she finally did it.

She finally ESCAPED!
