Emergency

A Poem

In the event of an emergency

Call his name like a search warrant

Breathe in each letter like your tongue isn’t ready to let him go just yet

Reach for him,

Grab him by his hands and beg

Not for sympathy

-BUT-

For another chance

Just one more try

A second longer to rise words not spoken

From your gut,

Speak into him with a promising whisper

And do not hold back tears instead

Flange them over your crowded balcony

Of an eyelid, Until he can see his reflection in them,

Allow him to bask in this for while,

For a moment unmeasured in time

Show him that you know mistakes

But your love is no accident

For just as your heart rises

It sinks

It weeps

Sorrow clothing it like a foolish moonlight on quiet water

Guilt replacing gravity until your heartbeat is a bass drum at the bottom of your feet

Do you hear it?

Tell him everything,

For everytime that you have told him nothing at all

For every time that he has reached to love you and you let him fall

For every lie that you didn't swallow for its truth instead

Don't tell him you love him

But show him

Show him all the reasons why

Don’t give him another breakable promise but give him change, a new you

A you that you haven't seen in a while

The you that you left in your last relationship for a while

A better you

One without secrets and filled with trust

In case of an emergency,

Tell him all of the things that you wish he knew

In case you are about to lose him

In case he is about to walk out that door

In case you never get the chance to again

Tell him everything

That you wish he knew
