A Poem for a Friend

Sometimes our lives can feel so staticStuck inside a routine, sometimes not even our ownLiving in somebody else's lightSoaking it up, parasitic in naturebut then all of a suddenin the midst of the complaints of boredom, and inability to find the excitement in a daythe world stopsand spins in the other direction

InertiaI'm flung forwardstruggling, resisting, not abidingI needed the shake upI needed the stop and the startand the spinthe change of direction

but, I thought, it wouldn't happen like thisthe world would stopand we would gathertogetherand then slowly, but surelystart moving in the other directiontogether

but insteadI was flung one way, while you stepped off and went the otheryou step towards a certain futureI fall backwards, into a familiar spiralin a direction going against everything I have worked onwe were there, weren't we?

We we weUs us us You

Me

I can't even bear to know whyyour reason doesn't matterI do not care for itLike you do not care for meor for the fact that I have fallen, and I am sat here, watching you run awaychasing everything you ever wantedas if you finally have cut the rope you've been scraping away ata rope bearing a burden, a weight, meand as you runand I watchsquinting my eyes, staring, waiting

you don't even look backyou don't even wonder
