Elizabeth

An Original Song

Live from Four Walls And The Cat, the virtual suburban open mic

Elizabeth blew in today

As if she'd never been away

Home from where the ocean ends

To catch up with old friends

Elizabeth has made it known

She doesn't care to be alone

She's sent the emails, made the calls

To summon one and all

She knows we'll drop everything and run

She takes our loyalty for granted

Feeds us tales of all the things she's seen and done

Chasing winter sun

Elizabeth reserves her heart

For her music and her art

People tend to come a distant third

But still we hang upon her every word

Elizabeth

Our winter days are spent forgetting you

Elizabeth is holding court

She doesn't seem to spare a thought

For those of us with other plans

And no time on our hands

Elizabeth will leave again

Jetting off to dodge the rain

Gazing past the tilting wing

And coming back next spring

She thinks we'll still play her little game

She'll assume we're still enchanted

Shocked to find we don't feel the same

Sad nobody came

Elizabeth devotes her heart

To her music and her art

People tend to come a distant third

Next time we'll pretend we haven't heard

Elizabeth

Our winter days were spent forgetting you

Elizabeth

My winter days are spent forgetting you
