Electric Bill

Advice from My Dad

I'm scared of being an adult, yet I know I so will

Dad says life is like paying an electric bill

"You can't live without any light"

But you don't have to pay it every day and night

"You know what I'm saying. That not what I mean."

"Life is all about consistency."

"Not every choice is a life changing mistake;

Like is not like baking a cake!

Where one wrong move messes you up."

If that's not it then I don't know what...

"Being an adult never ends,

But you can still have fun and have friends.

You can travel and dance and play

But you can't just lay around all day."

So life doesn't end at age 42?

"Of course not sweetie. That not true."

"I'm 51 and doing just great.

Sure I have bills and a job that I hate,

but I have a great wife and sweet children of mine.

So don't you think I'm doing just fine?"

That's when I thought,

about what I had been taught.

My dad's doing fine,

I don't need to whine.

I'll ease up on myself, I told my dear old man.

"All I ask dear, is that you live as best you can."
