Don't

A poem about anxiety.

don't fall in love with a girl with anxiety

unless you're prepared to hear about

every little detail of her day and especially

the way she always feels tense when she walks into statistics

because she had a panic attack

on the third day

at 10:45 a.m.

don't fall in love with a girl with anxiety

unless you're prepared to be woken up with a

call and a text and a call and a text

and a text

and a text

and a text

and a text

because she can't sleep and her thoughts are racing and the first thing on her mind was

you

don't fall in love with a girl with anxiety

unless you're prepared to handle her emotional scars

because some people didn't treat her well and she's scared of love

but you have to be gentle

because she's healing, I promise

don't fall in love with a girl with anxiety

unless you're prepared to be there at her worst

because her hands will shake when you hold them

because she's a ticking time bomb

ticking

and ticking

and ticking

boom.

and the fallout will land on you

if you're not prepared to love her

don't fall in love with a girl with anxiety

unless you're prepared to be loved harder than you've ever been loved before

because a girl with anxiety can't bear the thought of change

and losing you would shake her world and set off the bomb

so she'll love you with everything in her to stop things from changing and to keep you the same because

she's either gonna keep you forever or lose you and the latter is

terrifying

don't fall in love with a girl with anxiety

unless you're prepared for loads of affection

because she loves the way she feels when she's around you

because for once she feels safe

she feels warm

she feels peaceful

which is something she hasn't felt in a long long time

so let her love you with everything she has and hold on tight and

don't

let

go

don't fall in love with a girl with anxiety

unless you're prepared to see joy

like the way she looks when she sees a dog

or some wildflowers

or a photo that she just took

because she pays attention to details because details bring her comfort

so when she has a smile on her face and obsesses over the way you look in that hat

or the way your eyes are a unique shade of blue

or the way you laugh when she says a stupid joke

just let her

she's happy

she's safe

she's okay

because you were prepared to love her
