Dissociate to Elsewhere

The Void

Do you know how it feels

To slip away

To fade to somewhere else

To elsewhere

Do you know what it's like

To fight for consciousness

To fight the void

That threatens to take you

A surreal feeling settles around you

Like a curtain made of dreams

And subconscious musings

Falling softly

Covering the window

To the outside world

Dreams take you

Or try to

But you know

You're not sleeping

The witness in you sees you

Staring blankly

Gone from the world

Elsewhere

But nowhere

Lost in the void

In darkness

Scrambling in vain

Against the sides

Of the abyss

Desperate to get back

Your mind lies to you

Tells you it's safe there

But you know there's no danger

There's no immediate threat

Your mind has become confused

You know that's not where you belong

As you feel it come over you

You fight against it

Mindfulness exercises

You remind yourself quickly

Today is Tuesday

You tell yourself

Just trying to hold on

To a smallest piece of reality

You shred paper

To feel it tearing

You touch something cold

Desperate

To jolt yourself back

You eat something

Although you're not hungry

Hoping the feel

Of something on your tongue

Will pull you out of the dream

But your thoughts race wildly

Nothing stops them

Nothing slows them

Triggered by your own inner dialogue

Intrusive senseless nothings

Memories replayed

Against your wishes

Only to injure and wound

To maim and gouge

To attack brutally

Until mental blood pours

Drips down grey matter

Staining it black

Until the psyche withdraws

Until you dissociate to elsewhere

About the Creator

A. R. Ambrosi

I like to write, if that makes me a writer, then rock on!

I started writing as a child because I ran out of stuff to read. So, I only write stuff that I like. If you like it too, awesome! Enjoy! ^_^
