Desertion

Loss of Light

I can only assume the clouds put the sun to bed before he could rise.

However, they refused to cry.

I stood atop the tallest building on

my tippy toes for twelve days

Screaming his name,

Screaming for answers,

Screaming for something,

Yet the sky remained silent -

not even the thunder came.

So I climbed down and down and

down until

Earth touched the souls of

My feet

And my back

And my curls.

I balled my fists and closed my eyes

until rain fell only past my ears.

I opened my eyes and

Closed my eyes and

Opened my eyes and

Closed my eyes and

He was never seen again.
