Depression

A Poem About Depression and How to Get out of It

they say the depression could be healed

with antidepressants

the doctors

they say to take a 1 10mg pill a day

the therapists

they say

let’s talk again next week

so you take the pill

and you start talking

but you still feel misunderstood

you feel like something’s off

the therapist says

let’s talk again next week

you keep taking the pill

only to feel apathy

and sedated from feeling your own

feelings

and you feel more disconnected to

yourself than ever before

you keep looking for answers

not knowing where to turn

you try talking to your family

but they don’t understand

you try talking to your friends

but they just give you advice

you want to get out of this mess that

you’re in

so you’re willing to take all the advice you

could get

but really deep down

you just want to be understood

you just want to be heard

I get it

I’ve been there

but back to the advice

you listen to it

and you try to apply it

but something is still off

so you keep looking for answers

in books

in movies

in music

in people

in everything you could find

you already threw out the

antidepressants

you already talked to the therapists

to family

to friends

and you didn’t get the answers you were

looking for

but my dear one

the answers you’re looking for

you already have

they’re buried deep within you’re being

covered in layers of past traumas

past heartbreaks

past hurts

the only way to uncover those

is to go deep within

do the inner work

shed the layers

shed the hurts

deal with the painful emotions that you

held in for so long

write a song about it

write a poem about it

keep it to yourself

or share it with some in hopes to inspire

someone else

just let it all out

on a piece of paper

and release it

say everything you want to say and

more
