Dear Mother

A Poem

Dear Mother,

I hear what they say,

Think to myself it can’t be true,

Ever since I was little,

I looked up to you.

Dear Mother,

The years went by and I don’t know what to do,

Dad and you said some things,

But I thought they weren’t true,

But this world can be such an awful place,

And soon I learn not everyone has space,

People’s secrets aren’t safe.

Dear Mother,

I hear what they say,

And soon it all made sense,

The way they explained it,

Put every piece where it belongs,

But no matter what they said,

Even if it was true,

I would still always look up to you.

Dear Mother,

The years kept going by and you were still by my side,

But only because it dawned on you,

That I would do exactly what you say,

And even if it hurt me,

I would do it once more,

Because like before,

I have always looked up to you.

Dear Mother,

I see what the devil has done to you,

From the way you do your hair,

To the way you treat you your kids,

I see what it has made you do,

From the endless phone calls,

To the pockets strangely missing money,

I see everything it made you say,

From the night I was in tears,

To the day I had to calm down Dad.

But dear mother,

No matter what you put us through,

I will always be there for you,

Because I had once looked up to you.
