Dear Loners,

It's okay.

It's okay. You will get through it.

Dear loners,

I see you in the back.

Trying to hide behind your book or Nintendo DS,

with a hoodie over your head.

It's okay.

It's okay to enjoy alone time.

But I know you don't always like it.

Sometimes, you may sit and wonder...

Why you're alone.

Why you're by yourself.

Why you're not "socializing".

You ponder how you got here.

You think you may be worthy,

but in that same instant, you think,

"If I was, then why don't I have friends?"

You may think you don't deserve them.

You then wonder

why you "don't deserve" them.

You begin criticizing yourself.

Your hair,

your clothes,

your likes,

your hobbies.

You'll attack all of these things without once thinking

That maybe...

just maybe...

It's not your fault.

I know it's hard.

I know it's difficult.

I've sat in that seat before.

The one that oddly digs into the side of your back

as you try to stay hidden.

But it's honestly okay to be alone.

Do you know why?

Because when somebody is alone,

It does not mean everyone else is "too good" for you.

Rather,

It is another way of life.

Another way of moving forward

in this dark, depressing world.

It is just as valid

as everyone else.

And if others rag on you

for not living how they choose to live their own lives,

just remember that you're never truly alone.

I got your back, kid.

From loner to loner,

I got your back.

So, to those who feel this way,

The next time someone calls you a loner,

An outcast,

A weirdo,

Just remember this:

While they are judging people's outsides,

YOU are building your inside.

Sincerely,

Matthew Martin,

Certified loner.
