“Dear Friend”

It's Okay to Not Be Okay

Dear Friend

Dear friend, I see that you are hurting

And there's not much I can say.

But if I could say just one thing

I'd say "it's okay to not be okay"

Dear friend, you want to be alone

And alone you will be.

But if ever you need a friend,

You can always be alone with me.

Dear friend, the pain it comes in waves.

That's the one thing I'm sure of.

Pain, joy, pain, joy

I guess that's what we risk for love.

Dear friend, I know you know this..

But you must carry on.

Because where the pain comes in the night,

Also joy comes with the dawn.

Dear friend, please believe me when I say,

I know these days are worse than the rest.

But of all the days you've seen thus far,

You have yet to see your best.

Dear friend, take all the time you need..

There is no time frame on healing.

And maybe one day you'll see a meaning,

Understand what God was revealing.

Dear friend, let God hold your heart

When your strength is wearing thin.

And instead of doing it on your own,

I beg that you let God in.

Dear friend, I say it from experience

My heart was broken, he gave me peace.

He won't take away your hurt,

But you'll have joy, even when the pain won't cease

Dear friend, I'm not here to badger.

I'm just here to let you know,

When it comes to heartache,

Unfortunately, I'm a pro.

Dear friend, I know it's hard to sleep

When your mind won't stop racing...

And how can your body rest,

If your legs won't stop pacing.

Dear friend, tonight you're on my mind

Praying to god he holds you tight.

I know it's hard to be hopeful,

When "happy" is nowhere in sight.

So dear friend, one last thing I'll say,

Is find something that makes you smile,

And when you can't find "happy"

Think of that "something" for a while.
