Distance is human, especially over a long time. Separation from the people we love causes us to feel helpless, worthless, and hurt. The longer we keep up the distance, the harder things become for us. It’s hard to speak about the distance you feel with the other person, especially if they don’t feel the same separation you do. When feeling as if you can’t speak to someone, it’s easy to bury things deep down. Everyone knows that it is not healthy to keep things buried, so finding healthy ways to get them out is necessary. Here are some poems I wrote about being distant from those you love, and some about being replaced.
Silence
I am Beginning to love silence.
Not because I don’t have the choice but to listen to it,
But because in the silence, I can hear everyone’s voice I love.
My mom, my dad, my friends, even my dog.
I hear everything just by listening to nothing.
I am, beginning to love the silence, because it is the only one there for me now.
Because when I am alone in my bed it is there.
Because when I sit alone at lunch, it is there.
Because when I come home to an empty house, I don’t hear my family saying, welcome home, no.
I am beginning to love silence, because it is the gift that everyone has been giving me lately.
Everything
He used to
Be her everything
But things changed
And he quit.
So now she
Has nothing and
The boy? He
Has her everything.
Talk
We don’t talk / Anymore, you were
My person, and / You’ve left me
Barely a shell / of who I
Used to be. / You pushed me
Out and locked / The doors. I
Tried to use / My key but
Nothing worked. You / Said it was
For my protection / But you lied.
It was for / You. and now
I’m alone again / And you’re back
Out of that / Door, but you
Gave a new / Girl my key.
