Dead Light

A Poem for Stargazers

Have you seen the stars?

Have you heard they’re all dead

light from forever ago

shining down on our heads?

I’m the smallest being

that ever could be

yet these ancient godheads

gaze down on me.

How far in the future

will our sun’s dead light

shine upon another rock

on an alien night

on another small being

maybe smaller than me

who will hope they’re not alone

in this sparkling black sea?
