The first step into the world of love is daunting
Fresh naïve eyes act like blinders
It’s not smooth sailing
It’s a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows
Twists and turns leaving a sick feeling
Vulnerability is fear-inducing
No one wants to be broken
No one wants to be used
No one wants to waste their time
Each I love you a shot in the dark
Each time a chance to be broken
Broken into a million tiny pieces
Questions of am I enough
Questions of what did I do wrong
Feelings of being just another indistinguishable face in the crowd
Weeding through the seemingly endless menagerie of people focused on self-satisfaction
Realizations of acceptance
Acceptance of self-worth not being dependent upon the validation of others
