Daughter’s Heart Is Broken

Poem

I let you get under my skin every time

Make me out to be the fool

You creep your way back into my life

When it’s only convenient for you

Thought I could trust you but now I know the truth

You use me like a pen

You write all over me

Daughter’s heart is broken

Because of the selfishness of a father

No warmth or safety

Put my walls up so you can’t hurt me

I was warned for years not to let you in

But somehow you make it through

Act like there’s nothing wrong

Just so you have someone to walk on

You make sure I feel so small

Just so I come running

You use me like a pen

You write all over me

Daughter’s heart is broken

Because of the selfishness of a father

No warmth or safety

Put my walls up so you can’t hurt me

I'm not going to let you push me around anymore

I'm standing my ground

I won’t be the one that falls

You can't use me anymore

My heart will never be broken

No warmth or safety

Needed by you

I became stronger the day I let you go
