One and the Same
A tiny face pressed against a cold, cold window glass
Answers to her thoughts linger just outside
She wonders if time will stand still for her
For her to grow up
Grow up to be a mother
Not like her mother
But a real mother.
A tiny face with dripping tears, stained by circumstance
Her mind wants to cry, but her heart wants to dance
She wonders if time will stand still for her
For her to grow up
Grow up to overcome
Not like her mother did
But to really overcome
Leaves, stiff and colored brown leaves fall from tired trees
So tiny, but she knows she can relate to their doom
She wonders if time will stand still for her
For her to escape
Escape from all the wrenching pain
Not like her mother did
But really escape
A loud ringing in her ears, she hears his footsteps
Coming closer, she slowly turns ‘way from the scenery
She doesn’t have to wonder what will be going down
Her mind leaves the moment
Maybe like her mother’s did
Surely like her mother’s did
One and the same
