Daddy,
How can one little word,
Hold such meaning?
Daddy,
He rubs his bald head,
Only when he’s tired.
It keeps him awake,
Or so he says.
Daddy,
One little word,
Such meaning.
He chose us,
Adoption is,
Such an intimate action,
Bringing one or more,
Into your family.
Daddy,
One little word,
Such meaning,
To a blue-eyed,
Tow-headed little girl,
And her equally tow-headed big brother,
And squalling baby sister.
Daddy,
One little word,
Such meaning,
Patching up a little girl’s boo-boos,
Kissing her hair,
Wiping her tears,
Sending her off to play again.
Daddy,
One little word,
Such meaning,
To a little girl now an adult,
Crying because she misses,
Daddy.
