Crimson Shades

But loving him was red.

You are a garden of roses and daisies,

And I am a thicket of thorns

You are the bright lights that wake me up daily,

And I am a battered flag, black, tattered, and torn

Now you are my blue sky and my grey ocean

But I am your invisible wall to lean on

You are my one true love, my heart's devotion

And I?

I am the girl you've known all along.

You act like a man who needs somebody

I act like a girl who's broken and hurt

You don't see that you're so lovely

I don't see the way you make me burn

You're an avalanche of pain

And I'm a starstruck lover in the fast lane

You think you're alone

But you've got a follower

And you're so in the zone,

I wonder why I bother

Then I force myself to remember

That when I wish I weren't alive your smile gives me a reason

And even if we're not together,

The crimson shades of your cheeks are enough to make me fall again

You are the wind in a bonfire

I'm the rain that kills the party

You are the one who was hurt by a liar

And I'm the one who hurts her own body

But I can see through your sleeves

I hear the blacktop pounding of your fantasy

Now smile and wave, then turn out the light

Pretend you're okay and pray to the night

You think you're alone

But you've got a follower

And you're so in the zone

I wonder why I bother

The way you laugh puts me in a dream

I wish I could find your heart

You try to hide them but I can see

The crimson shades of your scars

You have a heart that's covered in ice

I have a heart that's burning

If I melt your walls can I save your life?

I guess not, sorry, I'm only learning

You are a garden full of twigs and vines

I'm only a rosebud that's starting to grow

If I get better can I call you mine?

If I promise to love you can I call you my own?

You think you're alone

But you've got a follower

And you're so in the zone

I wonder why I bother

But I can't help my heart falling for you

And I can't help it when my lips call your name

What a surprise when I found you loved me too

And you kissed me so hard all I saw were crimson shades
