Crashing Tide

This is a piece of paper

And this is a pencil

When the two of these meet

What do you get but words on a page

Words that can mean the world

Or a few dictionary definitions

Words that can destroy or strengthen religions

Or simply state its existence

Words that can reveal messages to the heart

Or simply serve as communication

Words that tell a story

Or simply lengthen an essay

Words that are meant to be read and comprehended

Or meant to be stared at in wonderment

It’s up to the writer to bring pen and paper together

And kindle the fire that tempts us to live

But it’s up to the interpreter to know and spread those words

And keep the fire going that keeps us alive.
