Core Burns Red

A Short Poem

Look at me,

See me through a scope

Longingly, patiently

See me at the end of the rope

You demand my soul, but forget my heart

You judge the layer of the earth's crust

given its distance from the smolder inside,

And that's all you see,

But my dear, the surface does not define the fire on the inside

This core burns red, a deep orange ember

And I promise you, my heart works in this way

On the surface I show to be cold, distant

But my heart is true, and it is burning through its core.
