Contradictions

Listen to my rambles of the advice I have received for love that has never helped me.

They told me this. But then they did that.

If you love something, they tell you to let it go.

If you love someone, they tell you to fight for it.

They tell you it will come back if it’s meant to be.

They tell you not to give up and to give your all.

I’m at a crossroads.

My heart beats faster.

I can feel it against my chest.

Is it because you have a piece of me?

Are you trying to break free?

I love you.

If I let go, will you leave?

If I fight, will you stay?

Tell me.

Don’t give me a contradiction.

Tell me the right thing to do.

Let me be the person for you.

But here’s a contradiction.

If I be the perfect person for you,

Will I no longer truly be me?

Does doing the “right” thing rob me of ingenuity?

I want to be me. I love me.

But I love you.

Tell me who to be.

Because if it’s not me.

Then maybe you don’t need me.

Contrary to popular belief.
