Coming From a Place

A Poem

Coming from a place where fireflies were lightning bugs

Sitting around a blazing fire, drinking hot cocoa from mugs

Where events never go as planned, leading to chaos, some would say

When the sun would set there was shadow play

With courageous people who risked their lives for me to be free

Where one mulberry tree became a juicy delicacy

Where hard work and time prove to be the best answer

One life lost to a battle with breast cancer

Sharing a love of the outdoors, with wildlife and wildflowers

Believing sharing was not just mine, but ours

Where grandmother would call the chickens with her sweet ol’ whistle

Learning about the garden plants including the thistle

Where feelings were openly expressed without shame

Athletic hobbies are about playing a fair game.

When the times get tough the family is always there

Loving family at times, but quarrels can lead to warfare.
