A Poem

the sidewalk is

littered with instruments.

they gather together.

the trumpets,

loud and brash,

pronounce their feelings

in a way that

cannot be ignored

even though you try.

a duo of flutes

pass by, twittering,

high and thin.

laughing music.

in the cafeteria

sit some drums.

their jarring noises

rise above the cacophony.

a few cymbals rest

among them.

ringing out with

a jump-inducing suddenness.

here a lone tuba

and there a flock of violas.

the latter are an

enchanting group.

they sing softly

and kindly together.

the noises blend

and create one song.

humming,

beating,

buzzing,

screaming,

moving,

living.

i walk silently

through the

intimidating symphony.
