College Advice

A Poem for My Sister

Here’s a little advice

From me to you

About everything you’ll experience in college

And what you have to look forward to

Money is rare

You think you spend a lot now

Just wait for your booklist

The bookstore is a cash cow

Despite what mom says

Go to a dorm part or two

Don’t worry

Your books will wait for you

Tests are important

Essays may be worth more

Some days will feel

Like an absolute chore

Then Spring break comes

What they say is true

Don’t try too many shots

Careful who you give your trust to

Sharing is caring

Or so they say

You’ll share everything with your roommate

They may be your best friend one day

Look to your classmates

They are going through it too

And when it really comes down to it

They, more than anyone, will understand you

What do I care?

You’re leaving, getting some space

I’ve been where you are

It’s nice to know someone’s there, just in case

Feel free to call

Day or night

I’d rather have you come to me

So I know you’re alright
