City Lights

They weren't so bright.

You’ve had a thing for the city lights

And all you wanted to do was write.

You never finished yours before

The book had been closed.

There were so many what ifs

And plans made that fell through.

The day of graduation just wasn’t the same.

The sleepless city was quiet,

and the city lights weren’t so bright.

I haven’t been back to see the Windy City

How’s Sears?

I know you’re okay but

Things just aren’t the same.

Crazy how the photographs

Bring back a time when you were alive.

I watched my world fall apart

And all I could do was stare.

I know you’re okay but

Please stay with me.
