Children of Night

A Poem

Andes Mountains, Chile

I am the Night Child, the girl who drank the moon

You fear you’ll never see me again, but I will roll back soon

The night is dark and full of terrors, but look up, I say

I’m here to give you light upon the narrow, dreary way

The pups sing songs in gratitude of my elegance and grace

They understand my heart, they know life isn’t a race

They eat, they breathe, they live, they die

They sing of the beauty of this cycle to the Night Child in the sky

Children of Night brought to light, worry not, I say

Be strong, be alert, trust yourself, and trust me

I’ll guide you through the sluice, its open, we’ve been waiting

Patiently, patiently through the floods we’ve been wading

This is our moment, shine, shine, shine

Shine through the sad sound of our mothers crying

Give them the shoulders they’ve needed since long

Sing them the melodies of this sweet night song

Oh, you are the Night Child, the boy who lassoed the moon

We hate to see you go, but hope you’ll be back soon

They’ll howl towards the stars upon your great return

If only to show their thanks through the night songs they’ve learned

Children of Night brought to light, focus on the balance

Or to your dismay you’ll lose your way, forgetting important temperance

Children of Night feel the wind, sink into the Earth’s song

Silence your heads, the path is inside, we’ve been waiting for you to come along
