Cheshire Cat

"We're all mad here."

It's never as it seems, but at the same time, it's not a lie. It bends the truth so cleverly, but the smile is not deception. The Cheshire cat sees things in ways you would never understand. Her illusions leave you wondering about the simple explanations you're given. Some people openly wonder what's real, but others will never admit to it. They refuse to even consider an alternate reality. The Cheshire cat is tired of tricks. She sees beauty in all oddities. To her, the boy who dangles over the balcony on the 40th floor shows the will to be free. He wants to fly. She admires his courage. The woman who stands on the train tracks waiting for her superman and the man who attempts to save her are so glorious in their last moments. The woman may have been lost but she is beautiful because she put herself on the line in order to let the man she loved feel like a hero, even if if was only for a split second. The cat even sees beauty in the train that killed them. Two lovers died in each others arms just as they always wanted, before life had a chance to tear them apart. The little boy who is homeless and alone is more of an inspiration with every window he breaks for shelter, and every wallet he steals for food. He has the will to live. And then there's the best friends who would do every drug in the world just to get a buzz. One wants to stop feeling, and the other wants to at least feel something for once. The beauty is in opposites coming together. The Cheshire cat's favorite wonder is the girl who will stand in the freezing cold rain, looking at the sky with tears running down her smiling face and blood from her arms because she does not fear her inevitable spiral to her early death. She welcomes it. These people, these broken, battered people do not lead happy lives, and most people would hate them or say mean things. The Cheshire cat makes sure of it. She even says them herself, though in reality, she loves them. She doesn't want them to lose their rare beauty by being worshiped and turning fake. The beauty is in the agony, which not many people can comprehend. The cat is easily misunderstood. There's a whole lot of those people behind that devilish grin people mistake to be sadistic pleasure. It's not as it seems. It's an illusion that I, as the Cheshire cat, have mastered.
