Cheap Black Instant Coffee

Summertime Blues

The bitter taste

Of cheap black instant coffee

Takes me back to that morning

We fell asleep after three sleepless summer nights

In a row. How we stayed up til sunrise

everyday and drink the liquid that made our faces

Squint in disgust. We laughed the bitterness away

From our throats and in our dizziness

We lived for another day.

I sit here now and I wish I could live again.

We really lived. We didn't just exist.

I wish we could live like that again.

I miss you everytime my tongue comes

Into contact with that bitter taste

Of cheap black instant coffee.
