Canal Dreams

I want to stay young at heart forever.

Low rumbles from the stream cause tingling sensations in our ears

Whilst the flock of birds and people sitting outside the cafe seem to be talking and sharing beers.

There's a comfortable silence between my friend and I

Though the sun feels a bit too hot, and the concrete we're sitting on

Seeps into our butts and thighs.

I wonder how long it has been since I saw my friend last

And how despite all of the events of our past

We can bask in comfortable silences

Without masks.

To my left, trees sway to the slow breeze.

To my right, flowers feast on gold streams.

Straight ahead, the canal looks wide and inviting

As though tempting us to fall in and breathe.

This is what life should be about;

Canal dreams.
