Here's a lively coffee shop.

I'm at Stab Witches Coffee located on Brookhurst BLVD

and Westminster Drive in Orange County.

aside from the regular caffeine addicts, we also have

here a fine assortment of meth heads. there's one on

the line in front of me now. he’s fidgeting about

unfolding newspapers and packing unpacking then

packing his pack again.

there is a meth head couple in front of the store that

look down right dangerous. the guy is six feet five and

he’s pacing back and forth, speaking into a cell phone

and carrying a wrapped package that may or may not

contain a gun.

his girlfriend is a dirty blonde dressed in shorts and a hoodie.

she keeps popping in and out of the bathroom.

the place is filled with nervous energy while the speakers

play California Dreamin’ by The Mommas & The Papas.

the quintessential California theme song.

I’ve been for a walk

On a winter’s day

I’d be safe and warm

If I were in L.A.

California dreamin’

On such a winter's day . . .

California, where did you go?
