Caged Bird

A Poem

Birds are free, but can also be caged by those who wish to harm them.

Sometimes a caged bird is ridiculed for the color of their feathers.

Used as a decoration and then forgotten about,

Left alone to sing a melancholy melody inside a rusted cage.

Even though the bird wishes to fly, clipped wings weigh them down.

How far can a caged bird leave their cage once it's rusted down?

Can a once caged bird learn what it means to be free.

Are you in a cage?

Are you locked in a place where you feel limited?

Are you afraid to leave your rusted cage?

Or is your cage made of steel?

Are you a caged bird who sings a melancholy melody in hopes of being heard?

Birds are free but can also be caged by those who wish them harm

or

cage themselves voluntarily.

To escape the cruelty of a world so cold.

Are you caged too?
