“Look at her
she looks so flawless”
“How does she make that outfit look so good
I’m jealous”
“Her makeup is the best
it must have been expensive”
Superficial view
That’s all their words amount to
But I’m more than that
Give me a second while I pat myself on the back
“She’s always studying
she must be so smart”
“The teacher’s love her
the teacher’s pet”
“Listen to her speak
sounds like a dictionary”
Academic performance
The only thing on their minds when they look at me
But I’m more than that
Give me a second while I pat myself on the back
They see me in parts
But I am not a puzzle to be torn apart
If they would stop and look closer
They could see that I’m not all composure
But I am me.
I have my secrets
I have no peace
I have my beauty
I hide my face
I have my brain
I don’t always get the grade
But I am me.
Not in part
But in whole for all to see
