Bruises

On the Skin & the Heart

You raise your voice

And raise your fist to me.

All over the words she said.

Just like you once did with

Someone else. Someone

Who controlled both of our minds.

Raised welts upon my skin.

The vicious cycle will begin.

The ever-present black and blue,

It’s nothing new.

I’ve learned to be a

Punching bag for you.

You hit with your words,

You hit with your hands.

You broke my heart

And the surface of my skin.

Now, I’m not only pale,

But also blue.

On my skin and in my heart.

All because of the words

She said to you.
