Broken Pieces

Pills scattered across the floor, as I watch you pick through an assortment of different pharmaceutical remedies, all I can see is broken pieces. They are no longer medication, but have become your damnation. No longer an excuse to get high, but your only escape, the only way you can hide from the pain & self-hate that tears you apart from the inside. Internal scars you try to hide, not from others, but from yourself. Moderation has become nothing but a vocabulary word, & I sit here watching you, silently, because I know nothing I’d say would be heard.

You’re beautifully broken, but you’d never know it. Beautiful & broken you know for sure, but not how the combination of the two makes you a work of art. How being broken can be more beautiful than anything new & unused. You’re used to people who abuse, who cause wear & tear, but then throw you away because you can’t stay the same as when they found you.

Broken, a word that is used in such a derogatory manner, that when it’s in association with you, you believe it’s true. Broken maybe, but not shattered into a million bits that crumble whenever attempting to fit & fix, you’ve come too far to be that.

Pieces, something you’ve always felt. A separation between each part of your soul, never knowing what it’s like to feel whole. Maybe it’s because the soul is so old & each life lived has left its own hole, leaving you to deal with feelings another life couldn’t let go.

Art, by definition, is/has more than ordinary significance. Ordinary, normal, perfect, all words that you don’t categorically fit into like society has made you believe you needed to. Art though, art is abstract. It’s seeing an array of colors out of whack, but once you take a step back you’re in awe. Broken pieces making up different emotions & colors, things most people don’t tend to notice but once they do are in utter belief, that something so broken can be so beautifully complete. Only broken & in pieces can create it, you are mosaic.
