Breathe In, Breathe Out

Based Off a Nightmare

Something wakes me

But what is it?

I struggle to open my eyes fully,

but it's difficult to see in the dark,

even a little bit.

Rubbing of my eyes occurs

As I sit up in bed.

My eyes focus, but I’m feeling unsure.

No…

The feeling is dread.

Breathe in, breathe out.

He looks back at me, how I don’t know,

Because where his eyes should be,

Well, there’s nothing but black holes.

The height of him looms over me

A solid blackness.

Except his face, pure white.

Besides those holes.

They’re black as night.

Breathe in, breathe out.

It was an eerie moment between he and I

With me sitting in bed,

And him touching the sky with his height.

The feeling of dread

Has finally gone.

It's replaced instead by a feeling of curiousity

And silence, dense and long.

“I must attempt to move, to leave”

I thought to myself.

Though he isn’t angry, it's not a place I want to be.

I slowly slide my legs off the sheets,

Carefully placing my feet

On the cold floor.

Inching my way towards the door,

He’s stopped pacing.

I freeze.

Please. Please.

PLEASE… don’t hurt me.

My heart races as I continue my steps.

He hasn’t moved yet,

Just his eyes follow.

Breathe in, breath out,

Watch your feet below.

As my toes cross into the light of the hallway,

I feel a chill blow over.

Breathe in, breath out.

The height is towering behind me,

My neck cranes.

Breathe in, breath out.

I fully turn around.

Breathe in, breath out.

The head tilts slightly.

There are still no eyes.

Breathe in, breath out.

I turn back around, cross into the light.

It goes black.

The height is right behind me,

I’m cast in his shadow.

He is everywhere.

Breathe in. Breathe out.
