I was thinking about a day back in time.
It had been a long day as I drove into the night
I was headed for the mission bell
It was there that
I found my story to tell
It started when I saw her standing
Beautiful in that summer dress
If I didn't ask her out
I knew something would surely be amiss
So I asked her out,
Join me for a fine dine and a red bottle of wine
She answered simple with a cool look
What is it you do for work
My reply was simple I said with a smile
I work for a hobby
She looked back,
I could tell
She did not think this reply funny
She asked again
What do you do for money
Well I've drilled the earth scratched the crust brought up what they call the black gold
I've stood in front of the classroom to give wisdom for children to become wise and old
I've been to college and I have a degree
Of many things I am quite capable and able
Today I hall the grapes that puts wine on the table
She looked with a cool even temper
her words came quick to the point like a knife
I want to know what is it you do for a life
For a life said I
Well I'm with a little company called the
American Red Cross
I have been eye to eye with the hurricane
I've gone toe to toe with the tornado
I've even shouldered the banks of the rivers floods
Many things I am quite capable and able
I'll teach you how to give the breath of life
I'll show you how to squeeze a heart
Why if it stops
I'll show you how to give it a jumpstart
With a sharp look in her eye and demanding tone
I heard
What is it you do for a living
And I want a short answer please
A short answer for a living
I said I can give that with ease
All I really must do is breathe.
