Breakthrough

Don't force the story to end right before the amazing part.

The pills, the love, the life, the dope

Abuse it all until we've lost all hope

Our only constant friend is the voice inside our head

And nine times out of ten that friend wants us dead

We chase that perfect high to make the pain go away

Not bothered by the ultimate price we might pay

The point finally comes when we want it all to end

We think of different ways to silence that constant friend

Pills mixed with booze, a sharp blade, a rope or a gun

One quick decision to turn all of our problems to none

As we prepare our chosen fate, our own means to an end

Into our head comes a voice overpowering our constant friend

The two voices battle strongly but the new one takes the win

Convincing us that maybe a happy life could be had again

We destroy our weapon of choice with hope in our heart

Shedding tears of fear and joy, tearing the suicide note apart

The new voice inside our head says "Don't worry, you're gonna make it"

The chance to end it all was right there and we chose not to take it

Our life is worth the struggle, we're survivors in recovery

That constant friend is forever silenced because I finally learned to love me
