Portrait of Beth Warne by David Crocker

Silk gown of past wraps black and blue

A punched tattoo on fearful skin

Salted tracks cut bully deep

Butterflies dance with trembling wings

Through tears, you tasted strength within

The sense to rise before the ten

Lacing gloves of steel on fist

With fighters stance, you stand again

Fire rages in amber gaze

punching through the canvas walls

combination piercing stings

jab consciences of spineless fools

You raise your guard with pride intact

Block flailing arms of bullies past

You fight for justice, innocence

Each punch delivered as if the last

You fight for freedom

You fight for you

Seconds out

Round two

Written by Alexander Rhodes in response to a painting by David Crocker.
